Trans Arab Research Institute (TARI) Is Holding

A Zoom Meeting Honoring Elaine Hagopian

TARI, a Think Tank dealing with Arab & Arab American issues, founded in the year 1998, and registered in Boston MA, is holding a virtual zoom event on Saturday, June 8^th, honoring Elaine Hagopian, a pillar of the Arab American community, The meeting opens with an introductory note from the M/C, Dr Hani Faris, on Elaine’s more than half a century of achievements.

The event covers five topics. The first topic will be handled by Dr Nancy Murray, the Director of Education at the American Civil Liberties Union of Mass. for 26 years.  It surveys Elaine’s scholarship and activism, and their collaboration in the founding and/or administration of NGOs such as the Middle East Justice Network, US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, TARI, Gaza Mental Health Foundation, and others.

The second topic surveys Elaine’s role in building the Association of Arab American University Graduates (AAUG), which, at one point, was the largest grouping of Arab academicians in the world. Three former presidents of AAUG will examine their association with Elaine in this field: Dr Baha Abu Laban, Attorney Abdeen Jabara & Dr John Makhoul.

The third topic appraises Elaine’s part in creating the founding principles and the scholarly activities of TARI. Dr Atif Kubursi and Dr Hani Faris will address these matters.

The fourth topic deals with the program of cultural / fact finding trips Elaine developed, organized, and led to Lebanon, Syria, Jordan & Palestine. Drs. Kathy & John Roberts who participated in the 2004 tour to Palestinian refugee camps will describe their experience.

The fifth & final topic reviews Elaine’s contributions to educating the public and bringing about a treasure of video documentaries through Arabic Hour. The three producers of the program, Mike Haidar, Nabih Hakim & Jocelyn Ajami, participate in this session.
